Laboratory Medicine Faculty Positions

The Department of Pathology at the University of California, San Diego (http://medicine.ucsd.edu/pathology) is seeking new faculty in the Division of Laboratory Medicine to support the strategic expansion of UCSD Healthcare and the growth of its regional referral services. Initial recruitments will be in the areas of clinical chemistry / proteomics, toxicology / pharmacogenomics, hematology / hematopathology, microbiology / virology, and molecular diagnostics. Successful candidates will share clinical and administrative responsibilities in the Clinical Laboratories at the campuses in San Diego (Hillcrest), La Jolla (Thornton), and Torrey Pines.
Applicants should have strong academic credentials with a track record of basic, translational, or clinical research, and are expected to actively contribute to departmental educational programs including training of residents, fellows, graduate and medical students. Dermatopathology - Northern California
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA (USA). Busy, multi-subspecialty pathology group of 25 pathologists and 3 pathology assistants is looking for an AP/CP and dermatopathology-boarded (or board-eligible) colleague. Dermatology-trained candidates are also welcome to apply.
The group consists of both hospital - and outpatient-based pathologists and annually sees approximately 30,000 inpatient surgical pathology cases and 70,000 outpatient cases, including 40,000 dermatopathology cases and 120 direct immunofluorescence cases. Hematopathologist - Northern California
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA (USA). Busy multi-specialty pathology group of 25 pathologists and 3 pathology assistants, in Sacramento, California, looking for an AP/CP and Hematopathology boarded (or board eligible) colleague. The applicant will be engaged in signing out both surgical pathology and hematopathology specimens (including flow cytometry).
The group is both hospital and outpatient based, and sees approximately 30,000 hospital based surgical cases, 70,000 outpatient based cases, 2500 hospital based cytologies and 40,000 outpatient cytologies on a yearly basis. Hematopathology cases include approximately 600 bone marrows (75% adult, 25% pediatric), 350 tissues and 900 flow cytometric specimens. AP/CP Board-Certified Pathologist
ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA (USA). Our group of six pathologists has a position currently available for an AP/CP board-certified pathologist with subspecialty training.
Candidates must have strong general and pediatric surgical pathology skills for this busy hospital-based practice serving St. Joseph Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). Both hospitals are undergoing major expansions. St. Joseph Hospital was recently selected by the NCI for their Community Cancer Centers Program, one of only 14 sites in the United States chosen.
Our practice records more than 30,000 surgical and cytologic accessions and 30 autopsies annually. We also operate an independent laboratory serving physician offices and surgery centers. Three full-time pathologist assistants assist with gross pathology and other responsibilities.

Academic Anatomic/Surgical Pathologists
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (USA). The University of California, Davis, School of Medicine is seeking two dynamic academic physician-educators to provide clinical service and teaching in Anatomic Pathology. Subspecialty interests in immunohistochemistry, renal pathology, gynecologic pathology, bone pathology, pulmonary pathology, cytopathology, or other subspecialties would be desirable. Clinical duties will chiefly involve surgical pathology and autopsy pathology. Teaching duties may include clinical, didactic, and small group teaching of housestaff and medical students, and interdisciplinary conferences to housestaff and faculty. Participation in the research mission of the institution is expected, either as a collaborator or as the intellectual leader of clinically-oriented research projects. Candidates with an interest in educational scholarship/research would also be considered desirable.
The successful candidate must have the ability to maintain a high level of service, work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, and should exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others. Candidates must be board-eligible or -certified in anatomic pathology, and have an appropriate record of accomplishment in clinical care, teaching and research to meet requirements for appointment: one position at the Assistant/Associate Professor and one position at the Associate/Full Professor in the University of California’s clinically-intensive academic series (Clinical or Health Sciences Clinical Professor). Eligibility for licensure in the state of California is also required.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has over 30 faculty members, provides service in all major subspecialties of anatomic and clinical pathology, and is active in basic science, translational, and clinical research. Educational programs include a 14-person residency program and specialty fellowships in hematopathology, cytopathology, and surgical pathology. The University of California, Davis, Medical Center, one of the nation’s “Top 100 Hospitals,” is a 576 bed academic medical center, with the distinction of having an NCI-designated Cancer Center. Assistant / Associate Professional Researcher

The position will be in the Laboratory for Atherosclerosis and Metabolic Research. The major focus of the laboratory is to understand the role of oxidative stress and inflammation in Atherosclerosis and Diabetic Vasculopathies. An individual with a strong background in biochemistry and cellular & molecular biology is needed. A background in vascular and mouse biology is desirable. The ability to conduct translational research is essential. Applicant must be well versed in biochemistry, cell biology (cell signaling) and molecular biology techniques (PCR, transfection, recombinant DNA technology etc) and possess a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent).

Director of Clinical Pathology
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (USA). The Department of Medical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of California, Davis is conducting a search for a dynamic and innovative Director of Clinical Pathology Division. The successful candidate will be a pathologist with strong diagnostic and administrative capabilities. Responsibilities will include managing the professional, administrative, and technical operations of the Clinical Pathology Division and its various sections including Transfusion Service, Automated Chemistry & Urinalysis, Hematology and Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology / Flow Cytometry, Special Chemistry, Toxicology, Molecular Pathology and Cytogenetics as well as promote and encourage participation of the CP faculty in teaching and research. Additional responsibilities include service in clinical pathology and teaching of medical students, residents, fellows and graduate students.
The Clinical Pathology Division is composed of 14 faculty who handle an annual volume of over 4,000,000 tests on 4,500 specimens per day. Office space is available within the hospital building which houses the core laboratory as well as a recently constructed off-site laboratory for special and esoteric tests. The Department is expanding its reference laboratory outreach program. In addition, the Department has well-equipped research core laboratories which includes optical biology and microarray and is building a proteomics section.
The incumbent will be a nationally recognized physician at the Associate or Full-Professor level in the Clinical or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series, with a background in teaching and administration and exhibit evidence of an active clinical or basic research program. The successful candidate must possess an M.D. with specialty boards or the equivalent in Clinical Pathology. California license or eligibility for licensure to practice medicine in California is required. SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (USA). Large, high volume, multi-site hospital-based pathology practice seeks one dedicated, meticulous, efficient, hard-working, AP/CP, BC/BE pathologist with gastrointestinal pathology AND surgical pathology fellowship training, ideally with 1 or more years of practice experience beyond training.
Our ten pathologists handle over 36,000 surgical pathology specimens, 60,000 gynecologic pathology specimens, and 3000 non-gynecologic cytopathology specimens annually, perform 60-70 autopsies per year, and direct a large multi-site clinical laboratory. The practice is rich in transplant (heart, liver, kidney), gastrointestinal, breast, gynecologic and urologic pathology cases, and also sees a high volume of aspiration cytopathology and gynecologic cytopathology samples. The group also sees a smaller but growing number of dermatopathology and neuropathology cases, and participates actively in numerous hospital conferences and committees. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with handling a heavy workload of general surgical pathology specimens daily, and will serve as an internal consultant in his/her area of subspecialty expertise to clinicians and to other pathologists in the practice.
Minimum requirements include US citizenship or permanent resident status, an M.D. degree, successful completion of an accredited U.S. residency program and one year fellowships in BOTH general surgical pathology AND gastrointestinal pathology from a U.S. academic medical center. The successful candidate must possess or be able to obtain a non-restricted California medical license prior to employment, and must be available for full-time work. Exceptional written and oral communications skills are required.

Dermatopathologist
DENVER, COLORADO (USA). AmeriPath is seeking a full-time dermatopathologist to work for our Denver, Colorado practice. Fellowship training and board eligibility or certification is required. The position is available immediately.
The Denver practice offers both out-patient and in-patient practice settings and is the largest pathology group in the region. We offer an attractive compensation and benefit package for the successful candidate. The practice has a comprehensive histology laboratory offering a full battery of immunohistochemical and special stains to support diagnostic services. The practice currently employs two board certified Dermatopathologists along with 18 other board certified Pathologists in varying sub-specialties. Ability to participate in general surgical pathology and hospital pathology is a plus, but a dermatologist-dermatopathologist will also be highly considered.
Our opportunity will afford the less experienced pathologist with considerable support from senior experienced pathologists in all areas of the practice as well as the nationally and internationally known dermatopathologists within Ameripath. The practice benefits from flow cytometry, cytogenetic and molecular testing support from our esoteric reference laboratories in California (Specialty Laboratories) and Florida (Center for Advanced Diagnostics).
