Background
AP Easy is an information management system for anatomic pathology laboratories. It is intended to answer the need for a low cost, easy to use approach for labs producing surgical, non-gyn cytology and cytology reports. AP Easy is designed to run multi-user in Windows 98/NT/2000/XP and Mac OS network environments. AP Easy is based on the relational database program FileMaker Pro from FileMaker, Inc. which is available on all of the above computer platforms.
AP Easy - The PROCESS is the most unique aspect of AP Easy. YOU have the opportunity to work with us on an interactive basis in the design of YOUR system. You start with a questionnaire that provides us with desired report layouts and information on how information flows in YOUR lab. From this we design the input screens, flow and output reports. YOUR review of each step insures that you get what you want. The process takes 4-8 weeks and you are ready to go.
AP Easy is a result of over 10 years of experience on the part of Small Business Computers of New England, Inc. working with independent and hospital pathology labs and is now installed in over 185 locations.
Surgical pathology features
AP Easy is custom programmed for YOUR lab and includes features you want and need. Some of the features might include:
- Patient Check on Log In for an existing patient. - Simple data entry with no field length limitations.
- Produces diagnostic worksheets with prior patient history. - Modifiable Gross/Microscopic/Diagnosis templates.
- Built in Spell Check capability - Electronic Signature capability.
- Graphic Images on Final Reports. - Produces Final Reports in YOUR desired format.
- Provides for fast search and inquiry functions. - Produces a complete set of reports defined by YOU.
Cytopathology features
AP Easy is custom programmed for YOUR lab and includes features you want and need. Some of the features might include:
- Patient Check on Log In for an existing patient. - Predefined Macro results entry with one click.
- Produces diagnostic worksheets with prior patient history. - Cyto Tech/Pathologist/Reviewer Results stored separately
- Electronic Signature capability. - Produces Final Reports in YOUR desired format.
- Provides for fast search and inquiry functions. - Produces a complete set of CLIA reports, format defined by YOU.

Autopsy features
AP Easy normally includes autopsy in the Surgical Pathology module and includes all necessary data, preliminary report and final autopsy report designed the way you want it.
Electronic signature
Available in all modules of AP Easy, sign out of a case could include entry of a passcode which adds an electronic signature to the final printed report. The sign out process is custom programmed the way you want it.
Image capture
Image capture (gross, microscopic slide, etc.) can be stored in a library folder of images named to identify the case and image number. These images can be incorporated automatically into the final report by automatic import or manual import. Final report automatically adjusts for number of images to be included.
Patient lookups
Patient lookup is by any available data and result is access to all available reports, status, and ability to view and/or print complete patient history including paps, surgical biopsies, and archive cases from prior systems.
Internet reporting
AP Easy has an optional Internet Reporting module a referring physician is given a unique username/password. Cases, as finalized, are uploaded to a fully HIPPA compliant hosting web site as PDF files of the actual final report. Your client can search, view and/or print these reports ONLY if their name is authorized and on the report. Your client can use a standard browser from any computer to access their reports.
Billing
Two AP Easy modules are available for billing. The primary billing option available is the inclusion of an integrated module (Easy Billing) for professional insurance/patient billing and includes electronic ANSI 12 claims processing, HCFA 1500 printing, and many other features specifically designed and customized for pathology lab medical billing. The second billing option is a client bill module for billing a client on a monthly basis directly.
Voice recognition
Any standard voice recognition software that operates under Windows or MAC OS should work with AP Easy. No special software is included in AP Easy for voice recognition.
Maintenance support
Maintenance/support for AP Easy includes normal support for problems as well as ongoing customization of features and reports, etc. First year maintenance/support is included in the purchase price. Post first year maintenance/support is $995/year/major module installed (surgical/cytology/billing).
