Full-time Faculty Member with Expertise in Surgical Pathology

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA (USA). The Department of Pathology at LSU Health, School of Medicine in New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO) is seeking a full-time faculty member with expertise in Surgical Pathology who will participate in the Anatomic Pathology service at our major clinical affiliate, University Medical Center in New Orleans (UMC-NO). Diagnostic expertise in gastrointestinal pathology and/or breast pathology is particularly desirable.

UMC is a 424 bed state-of-the-art academic hospital that opened in August of 2015 and is experiencing growth in all services, including surgical pathology. The Pathology Laboratory occupies over 40,000 sq. ft. in the Diagnostic and Treatment Tower. As a faculty member, significant participation in the diagnostic service is expected. Additional duties will include teaching of residents and fellows, and the establishment of collaborative projects of translational research in areas of interest. LSUHSC-NO and UMC-NO are members of the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium (LCRC) and ample opportunities for collaborative clinically relevant research exist.

CALGARY, ALBERTA (CANADA). Calgary Laboratory Services (CLS) and the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) are seeking a qualified Academic Dermatopathologist. Candidates must have strong references and possess a strong academic background and a track record of collegiality with co-workers. The successful candidate will join four other dermatopathologists within our current group of approximately 100 laboratory physicians and scientists.

CLS is a multi-site, regionalized laboratory providing comprehensive laboratory services to Calgary and surrounding communities. CLS processes >30,000,000 tests, 250,000 surgical specimens, 215,000 gynecologic cytology specimens, and 10,000 non-gynecologic cytology specimens annually. The dermatopathology service signs out approximately 30,000 surgical cases and 1,800 consultations per year. CLS is an independent, but publically funded organization that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS), and is affiliated with the University of Calgary (UofC). The CLS and DPLM offer residency training programs in Anatomic Pathology, General Pathology and Neuropathology, as well as Fellowship training in subspecialty areas within Anatomic Pathology. The position would involve substantial teaching responsibilities for pathology and dermatology residents as well as a dermatopathology fellow.

Calgary, the largest city in Alberta, is located within an hour’s drive of the Rocky Mountains, and within a half day’s drive of eight national parks. Job Summary & Responsibilities
Each Dermatopathologist takes direction from, and reports to the Dermatopathology Specialty Group Leader as well as the Clinical Section Chief, Anatomic Pathology / Cytopathology, who in turn reports to the Vice President Medical Operations (CLS) and Zone Clinical Department Head (AHS). Dermatopathologists must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established performance indicators and turn-around times, must actively participate in such activities as quality assurance, quality control and quality improvement programs, and must actively participate in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical teaching. This is a joint UofC / CLS academic position; the successful candidate will hold a Faculty appointment at the Associate or Professor level with up to 50% protected time for academics.

Qualifications
Qualifications for the position include an MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, certification in Anatomic Pathology and Dermatopathology. Experience and expertise in molecular diagnostics would be an asset. The successful candidate must have at least 5 years of experience, a strong teaching track record and research background.

Compensation
CLS provides an excellent remuneration package including relocation assistance. Albertans pay no provincial sales tax. Options to function as either a contractor with or an employee of CLS exist. Starting remuneration is commensurate with the level of fellowship training and experience. Range of remuneration is $350,197 to $407,373 (includes $9,000 CME) per annum (Canadian dollars).
