Physician, Microbiology Service, Department of Laboratory Medicine

BETHESDA, MARYLAND (USA). The National Institutes of Health (NIH) invites candidates with a strong Clinical Microbiology background, scientific leadership, and managerial credentials to apply for a Clinical Microbiologist position in the Department of Laboratory Medicine, NIH Clinical Center, Bethesda, MD.

The Clinical Center's Microbiology Service provides state-of-the-art diagnostic and consultation services, supports the clinical research programs, and conducts research in the field of microbiology. The Service consists of six sections: Bacteriology, Mycobacteriology and Mycology, Specimen Processing, Molecular Diagnostics, Genomics, and Parasitology. The laboratory has increasingly focused on molecular and NGS technologies and has been a pioneer in the development of innovative infectious disease diagnostics. In addition, we have an American Society for Microbiology CPEP-approved program in Medical and Public Health Laboratory Microbiology. The Microbiology service currently consists of 42 staff members including the Chief of Microbiology, three senior doctoral level microbiologists, and nine doctoral level scientists and post-doctoral fellows.

Candidates must have an MD with board certification/eligibility in either Clinical Pathology or Infectious Disease, as well as a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Certification in Medical Microbiology through the American Board of Pathology or through the American Board of Medical Microbiology is preferable, but not required. Salary will be commensurate with laboratory and managerial experience as well as scientific accomplishments.

General Pathologist Position

Academic Hematopathologist
Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center

BUFFALO, NEW YORK (USA). The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Roswell Park seeks to recruit an academic hematopathologist at the assistant or associate professor rank with fellowship training and board certification /eligibility (Hematology - American Board of Pathology) to support a rapidly growing hematopathology service and expanding clinical and research programs. The Division supports the department's academic mission, is collegial, collaborative, and fast paced.

The successful candidate will join a hematopathology staff of three fellowship-trained and board certified hematopathologists, four certified technologists and two technicians with an overall clinical volume of more than 4500 cases per year.

The hematopathology clinical service is divided among bone marrow transplant, myeloid, lymphoid, and plasma cell disorders. State of the art ancillary services include flow cytometry, molecular diagnostics, and conventional cytogenetics support the clinical mission. The interactions are supportive and collegial integrating morphology, flow cytometry, cytogenetics, and molecular findings, including FISH, into the reports. Hematopathologists are a key component of the clinical delivery team providing consultative services to Roswell Park's medical oncologists.

Educational opportunities include teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and international scholars visiting the department. In addition, the Center for Immunotherapy and Cancer Center Support Grant resources provide abundant opportunities for cross-disciplinary basic and translational research collaborations.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide the full range of hematopathology expertise including interpretation of flow cytometry. In addition, participation in support of the Cancer Center's multidisciplinary tumor boards and translational research activities is expected. ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA (USA). Private group in Rockledge, Florida is currently looking for two full-time AP/CP Pathologists, one to start around October to December 2018 and the other one to start towards the end of next year 2019. Our group currently consists of 4 doctors.

Caseload Surgicals ~6,000 to 8,000, Non-Gyn Cyto~1000, BM~80 to 100, Paps ~600 to 700, CP reviews~500 (these mostly include PBS, GTT, Body fluid smears). CP consists of mainly calls from blood bank and we don't get many of those. We also do blood utilization review for a separate rehabilitation facility. We cover two community hospitals with the possibility of covering a third community hospital in the future. We also cover a reference lab. We perform Medical Review Officer duties for Toxicology at the reference lab. Reimbursement will be provided for Medical Review Officer training and certification. Salary is negotiable. Included malpractice insurance, medical staff dues at both hospitals, reimbursement for Florida medical license, reimbursement of CME expenses up to a limit, partial payment of medical, dental and vision insurances(group pays half), 30 days vacation includes CME and 15 sick days. Unused vacation time rolls over and never expires. No DEA needed. Eligible to participate in pension plan after 12 months of employment. We do gross our own specimens and cut our own frozens. We do have grossing techs and a Cytotech, however, the tech only screens Paps. We screen our own Non-Gyn Cytos. We do not perform any autopsies.

ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (USA). The Mid Atlantic Kaiser Permanente Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine - is seeking a board certified / board eligible Clinical Pathologist for our region. The department is comprised of greater than 30 individual labs of varying complexity. Most laboratories support a medical office facility or medical hub where there are multidiscipline practices, operating rooms and emergency rooms. The most complex lab is the Regional Lab in Rockville, Maryland that supports the network in it’s entirety. Opportunities for the Clinical Pathologist in this “hospital-like” setting include involvement in all disciplines of clinical laboratory medicine (chemistry, hematology, microbiology, molecular, blood banking, quality), input towards new technology and instrumentation as well as bringing those programs to live operating status, integration of laboratory results into the electronic medical record, member of regionwide lab utilization committee and overall leadership and development of the Clinical Pathology service for the region. Essential Job Responsibilities

• Director of regionwide Clinical Pathology service; be the regional ‘go to’ expert in Clinical Pathology
• Medical directorship of one or more laboratories in the region
• Leading role in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies and informatics programs
• Leading role in test method validation, reference range standardization, safety and quality assurance
• Oversee clinical algorithm development with a forward facing vision
• Write, review and approve validation studies, SOPS and protocols as needed for clinical algorithms / instrumentation

Academic Hematopathologist

ATLANTA, GEORGIA (USA). The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a full-time academic Hematopathologist at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The successful candidate will become the sixth faculty member of the expanding Section of Hematopathology within the Division of Clinical Pathology. Based at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA, Hematopathology faculty currently handle approximately 3800 in-house bone marrow/lymph node specimens and 1000 outside/expert consultation cases annually. These activities support Emory’s multi-hospital healthcare system, the Winship Cancer Institute (Georgia’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center), as well as several community hospitals throughout metropolitan Atlanta and the surrounding region. The Hematopathology group additionally reviews approximately 6600 flow cytometry immunophenotyping profiles, 3200 molecular diagnostics tests, 3600 FISH panels, and 3400 cytogenetics studies each year. They also participate in multidisciplinary leukemia/lymphoma conferences and are actively involved in the training and education of fellows, residents, medical students, hematopathology laboratory staff, and students of allied health science programs. The successful candidate will share clinical service and teaching responsibilities equally with the other five faculty members in the Section of Hematopathology.

The successful candidate is expected to have strong diagnostic, teaching and interpersonal skills and should be Board-certified or Board-eligible in Hematopathology. NEW YORK, NEW YORK (USA). The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York seeks a Clinical Laboratory Immunologist. The Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases is a worldwide leader in cancer treatment and diagnosis, consistently voted as one of the best specialty hospitals in the nation. The Department of Laboratory Medicine provides diagnostic testing for all patients seen at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). The Department is comprised of the following services: Clinical Chemistry, including Point-of Care, Hematology, including Coagulation and Cellular Immunology, Microbiology, Cellular Therapy, Transfusion Medicine, including blood bank, donor room and apheresis, and jointly with the Pathology Department, Hematopathology. The Cellular Immunology Laboratory performs over 35 thousand tests annually and is a highly advanced laboratory with a staff of 15 technologists, a supervisor, manager, and one Medical Service Chief. The environment provides substantial opportunities for clinical/translational research, as well as collaboration with investigators throughout MSKCC. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in an expanding program focused on service, research and teaching. Several programs at Memorial Hospital are currently expanding resulting in increased tests volumes. The Department of Laboratory Medicine is concurrently expanding to support these new and expanding hospital programs that include a new, state-of-the art Lab Medicine building with dedicated laboratory space for individual areas.

Candidates must have an MD and/or PhD with expertise in cellular immunology including flow cytometry and functional/cytotoxic assays, particularly as they apply to the analysis of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, immune reconstitution and immune modulation. Candidates must also have expertise in innate and humoral immunity, particularly related to clinical test utilization and assay development. Board Certification from the American Board of Clinical Laboratory Immunology is preferred and Board Certification from the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics would be a plus. 10. Performs review of GYN-COE specimens at the GYN-COE lab in Annandale, Virginia in support of GYN-COE Research efforts, using Tele-pathology and on- site presence.

Renal Pathologist

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI (USA). The Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine is seeking an AP board certified and fellowship-trained Renal Pathologist at the Assistant/Associate Professor level to join an established renal pathology service. Experience and/or fellowship training in another subspecialty (especially genitourinary pathology) and/or research is desirable. The renal pathologist will work closely with the other renal pathologist and nephrologists and will be responsible for sign out of medical and transplant kidney biopsies. The Department currently receives approximately 70,000 non-cytology surgical pathology specimens per year including approximately 500-600 renal biopsies, including consultation cases. The ideal candidate should have strong diagnostic skills in tissue hematopathology as well as experience in clinical laboratory hematology. The Department of Pathology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is seeking an academically oriented, Board certified faculty pathologist with appropriate training and established skills in general surgical pathology, basic and translational research and multidisciplinary investigation.
