Midwest Surgical Pathology Opportunity

Cytopathologist

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK (USA). The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry, in Rochester, NY is seeking a Cytopathologist. Additional subspecialty surgical pathology training/expertise is preferred, but not required. Candidates must hold an MD or MD-PhD, have completed cytopathology fellowship training and have a strong general surgical pathology background to join a vigorous academic department. This position will be primary cytopathology while providing some support to one of the surgical pathology subspecialties. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the position will have an academic component, which may include translational research, or clinical research. The anticipated rank is open, commensurate with experience.

The Cytopathology Department at the University of Rochester annually evaluates 40,000 GYN Pap tests, 12,000 Non-GYN specimens including a diverse mix of body cavity fluids and fine needle aspirations, and many interesting consult cases. There is a robust fine needle aspiration service throughout the hospital, composed of approximately 2,500 fine needle aspiration procedures. Immediate on-site evaluations are rendered for a range of procedures, including endobronchial ultrasound guided fine needle aspirations (EBUS), Super Dimensional procedures, endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspirations, CT-guided fine needle aspirations, ultrasound guided fine needle aspirations, and fine needle aspirations of palpable and non-palpable lesions. In addition, we have various special interactive programs for cytopathologists including real time intraoperative evaluations with thoracic surgeons and ultrasound guided fine needle aspirations performed by cytopathologists.

Academic Gynecologic Pathologist

The successful candidate will join a team of subspecialty pathologists operating within a large academic laboratory medicine program at the University Health Network. The Division of Pulmonary/Thoracic Pathology at Duke consists of five Pulmonary Pathologists and is known for its expertise in occupational lung disease, diseases of the pleura, and transplant pathology. We work closely with our thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, radiologists and oncologists to provide the best patient care.

Diagnostic responsibilities will include neoplastic (including biomarker studies), non-neoplastic and transplant pathology as well as accompanying multidisciplinary conferences. Experience in cardiovascular pathology would be beneficial, but not required. Opening for AP/CP Boarded Cytopathologist

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI (USA). A busy, well-established, hospital-based, private practice group is seeking a board certified (or eligible) cytopathologist for part-time or full-time employment. The group is a physician owned and managed team of seven full-time AP/CP boarded pathologists, several with subspecialty boards in cytopathology and/or hematopathology, one CP and Transfusion Medicine boarded pathologist, and two exceptional Pathologist’s Assistants. The group serves not only a Top Ranked, 400 bed acute care hospital in a desirable suburb of West St. Louis County, MO but also serves three smaller hospitals in the community. The centralized hospital laboratory processes approximately 28,000 surgical specimens, 400 bone marrow specimens, 600 flow cytometry specimens, 3,300 non-gyn cytology specimens, and 18,000 Pap smears annually.

Applicants must have fellowship training and board certification or eligibility in cytopathology, board certification in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology, and licensure or eligibility in the state of Missouri. Exceptional surgical pathology skills with the ability to sign-out a broad spectrum of simple and complex surgical pathology specimens, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently are also necessary. Experience in hematopathology is highly desirable but not required.
