Northland District Health Board provides secondary care services to the northern most part of New Zealand. Our haematopathologist team of two provides core services from Whangarei Hospital. Whangarei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services and supporting three regional hospitals located in Kaitaia, Kawakawa, and Dargaville. Despite our largely rural setting, the pathology seen in Northland is often advanced and complex, making for stimulating and exciting work as a pathologist.
The successful applicant will be part of a friendly pathology team providing a high level of service. You will develop strong working relationships with our oncology team which includes two oncology haematologists.
The successful applicant should have comprehensive experience and training in diagnostic and consultative haematology services. You will be proficient in performing and reporting bone marrow biopsies; and you will have a sound knowledge in transfusion medicine. Participation in the after-hours on call roster is required.
You would ideally be a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (in haematology), and hold, or be eligible to hold Vocational (Specialist) Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. The Anatomical Pathology Laboratory in Whangarei Hospital provides a Histology and non-gynae cytology service for Northland. We receive specimens from both the community and four Northland hospitals; servicing a population of 150,000. We have a state of the art mortuary and provide medical and coronial post-mortems for the region.
