Department of Pathology

The Department of Pathology at the University of Mississippi School Of Medicine seeks a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Clinical Cytogeneticist for the position of Assistant or Associate Director of Cytogenetics; Certification/Eligibility in Molecular Genetics desirable. The faculty member serving in this position will be actively involved in clinical issues such as: case signout, quality management, operational efficiency, and outreach as well as assay development and implementing new technologies. The Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory currently provides classical cytogenetic analysis of all specimen types and FISH on prenatal, constitutional blood, and leukemic specimens. The Laboratory anticipates expanding FISH testing into paraffin-embedded and touch prep specimen types to meet the needs of an actively growing Pathology service.
The Department has committed to greatly expanding the range of molecular pathology and molecular genetic testing offered, with a Director of Molecular Pathology recently joining the Faculty and now actively setting up a new laboratory for those testing methodologies.
The individual hired will have a PhD, and have certification or be board-eligible for certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics. Experience with CGH microarray, Next Generation Sequencing, and related bioinformatics would be a plus. Evidence of scholarly activity should be demonstrated, and those with research interests are also encouraged to apply. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others are essential.
UMMC has an accredited AP/CP Residency training program and fellowship training programs. Candidates should enjoy working with medical students, pathology residents and fellows. Duties are those of an academic clinical cytogeneticist and include, but are not limited to clinical service and training of residents and fellows. Good teaching skills and experience with medical student education are highly valued. Candidates from a variety of backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The position is posted at an Open Rank.
