Research Lab Specialist

The Research Lab Specialist (Job Number 30160) in the Pathology Department will assist the principal investigator with the design and execution of experiments in the ongoing / future projects. The research studies in our laboratory are focused on the molecular genetics of pediatric solid malignancies with the aim to identify genetic markers with diagnostic and prognostic relevance in these tumors. The Research Lab Specialist is expected to perform experimental procedures accordingly, with minimal supervision, maintain efficient laboratory operation, learn novel experimental techniques, increase knowledge of pediatric solid tumors, and participate in the presentation and/or publication of research results. The Research Lab Specialist performs other duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.

Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field and eight years (post-degree) of relevant work experience.
OR
A Master's degree in an appropriate scientific field and seven years (post-degree) of relevant work experience.
OR
A PhD in an appropriate scientific field and four years (post-degree) of relevant and productive work experience.

Preferred: Experience in molecular biology techniques, including real-time and RT-PCR, and extraction of DNA and RNA derivatives from tumor samples is preferred. Experience in microarray analysis, protein analysis, and fluorescence in situ hybridization technique is also desired.

STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK (USA). Staten Island University Hospital is recruiting an Administrative Director, Laboratory Services. The applicant must have at least 10 years of supervisory experience in the clinical laboratory together with knowledge of accounting necessary for budget preparation. Laboratory services at SIUH encompass a large in-patient load, but has an even larger out-patient referral business. The laboratory provides sophisticated testing including special hematology and molecular diagnostic testing. A residency program has been submitted for review. link
