Anatomic Pathology Technologist

The Women's Care Florida Laboratory is expanding its scope of practice from a "read only" lab to include Molecular Microbiology, Histology including Immunohistochemistry and Cytology. We are seeking an experienced Anatomic Pathology Technologist to support this transition.

Our new custom built lab is located at the Central Business Office in the heart of the Westshore district in Tampa, Florida.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Works in all areas of the laboratory with a willingness to learn new tests and procedures as needed.
• Ensures quality control and compliance procedures are followed and QC reports are up to date.
• Resolves problems through interaction with clients via phone calls or other means of communication.
• Ensures safety regulatory standards and safety procedures are followed.

This is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities, but rather a general description of the work performed by this position.

Requirements: Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in medical technology, chemical or biological science and minimum of 2+ years of laboratory experience in histology, cytology, and/or molecular pathology. Interdisciplinary Scientist

The FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, Office of Cellular, Tissue and Gene Therapies is recruiting an interdisciplinary scientist to serve in the dynamic, highly challenging, and forward-thinking atmosphere of regulatory policy and biological product review in the Human Tissue and Reproduction Branch of the Division of Human Tissues (DHT). The DHT is strongly committed to bringing FDA and the public together in partnerships to develop regulatory policy and new therapies, while assuring the safety of human cells and tissues for transplantation with respect to communicable disease risks.

The incumbent will manage projects for regulatory policy implementation or development relevant to regulation of human cells and tissues, such as musculo-skeletal tissues, ocular tissues, hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells, and reproductive cells or tissues. Other duties might include review of regulatory applications for some of these products, policy development related to communicable disease issues, and review of safety data.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen. Candidates with a Masters degree with a preferred concentration in biology, microbiology, immunology, pathology, infectious diseases, or a related laboratory field such as medical technology are highly desired. The candidate should have strong organizational and communication skills.

This position may also be filled by appointment in the U.S. Public Health Service, Commissioned Corps.

Lead Bioinformatics Programmer

HOUSTON, TEXAS (USA). The Lead Bioinformatics Programmer will serve the Department of Pathology & Immunology and its research mission at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH). He or she will be based in the Texas Children's Microbiome Center (TCMC) at TCH, and will report to Emily Hollister, Ph.D. (Director, Bioinformatics and Microbial Ecology).

This individual will analyze and manage high-throughput sequence data generated by next-gen platforms, including 454, Ion Torrent, and Illumina HiSeq and MiSeq. He/She will work closely with TCMC investigators, bioinformatics analysts, biostatisticians, and collaborators to help manage, analyze, and interpret sequence data for marker gene studies (e.g., 16S, ITS), and genomic, metagenomic, and transcriptomic projects. The successful candidate will implement software applications and systems to support sequence analysis, contribute to the maintenance and development of the research informatics infrastructure, and train data analyst(s), students, and investigators as needed. He/She will participate in funded research projects, assist in the preparation and submission of manuscripts for publication, and support efforts to obtaining additional research funding. This individual will also perform other tasks as assigned including statistical report generation, manuscript preparation, and software licensing maintenance.

Required: Experience with Perl, HTML, CGI, relational databases and SQL. Programming in a UNIX/LINUX environment. Sound English written and oral communication skills.

Preferred: Experience with microbiome applications of NGS data; ability to synthesize statistical results and bioinformatics data into graphic and written form; knowledge of UNIX/LINUX systems, including server and cluster maintenance.

Research Assistant II

HOUSTON, TEXAS (USA). A Research Assistant II is needed to join a basic science/translational research lab based in the Texas Children's Microbiome Center at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH). Our studies are focused on understanding probiotic mechanisms of GI disease prevention in children. This person will participate in funded research projects and assist the department in obtaining additional funding. This individual will design, direct, and conduct experiments requiring high-level skills and expertise in the laboratory environment. This individual will develop and optimize new techniques for the laboratory, analyze data, compile literature searches, and report results and summaries to faculty members. This individual's laboratory duties will be heavily weighted in molecular techniques, including (but not limited to): cloning, gene expression, and bacterial genetics. Other duties will involve classical microbiology, metabolite and protein expression/purification, cell culture, and animal experiments. This individual is expected to work independently while balancing a variety of ongoing projects, deadlines, and basic laboratory management. This person will also aid in the preparation of manuscripts and proposals, and may train, orient, and assign activities to less experienced research staff.
