Definition / general
  • Also called endodermal sinus tumor
  • More common in vagina; some arise in both areas
  • Usually girls 1 - 2 years old with blood-tinged vaginal discharge and variably elevated serum alpha - fetoprotei

Gross description
  • Partially eroded, pedunculated, soft and friable
Microscopic (histologic) description
  • Reticular (net - like), solid and festoon (string or garland) patterns are most common
  • Usually Schiller - Duval bodies (central blood vessel surrounded by primitive cells)
