  • Diffusely infiltrating astrocytoma negative for IDH mutations by immunohistochemistry (for mutant IDH1-R132H protein) and sequencing (for IDH1 codon 132 and IDH2 codon 172 gene mutations)
  • Most likely constitutes a variety of other entities with different clinical courses
  • Entities which have been found to be incorrectly diagnosed as diffuse astrocytoma IDH-wildtype include:
  • Diagnosis should be used with caution (Acta Neuropathol 2015;130:407)
  • Often lacks mutations in p53 and ATRX
  • Many IDH1 / 2 wildtype adult diffuse gliomas behave adversely, similar to glioblastoma (Acta Neuropathol 2015;130:407)
