  • Usually acquired due to immunosuppression from tumors, chemotherapy, transplantation or AIDS

  • Fundoscopy: retinitis with sharply defined borders; may have brushfire appearance with necrosis and hemorrhage
Microscopic (histologic) description
  • Coagulative necrosis with secondary choroid inflammation
  • Retinal cells have large intranuclear and small intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies
