Definition / general
  • 1 - 3% of cervical nodes
Microscopic (histologic) description
  • Capsular or subcapsular involvement with 20 - 30 normal appearing colloid filled thyroid follicles
Differential diagnosis
  • Metastatic papillary carcinoma: assume metastatic unless see small aggregate of follicles that are round / oval, loosely arranged with no papillae, normal sized nuclei and nucleoli, fine chromatin, no crowded nuclei, no stromal reaction, no psammoma bodies
