Medical knowledge, practice based learning and systems based practice
  1. Recognize that metastases represent the most common pathologic process diagnosed in the mediastinum by FNA biopsy
  2. Become familiar with the most common primary tumor sites which may metastasize to the mediastinum, leading to FNA biopsy
  3. Recognize the importance of obtaining adequate tumor cellularity for cell block preparations when special stains are anticipated in the case of metastatic lesions
  4. Become familiar with immunohistochemical staining panels which may be of use in identifying the primary tumor subtype, regardless of the presence or absence of pertinent clinical history
