Definition / general
- Very rare in salivary glands with few reports of involvement of major salivary glands
- Histogenesis thought to be ectodermal, and derived from remnants of branchial pouch epithelium
- Since easily mistaken for salivary gland abscess, neoplasm or other cysts, excision required for diagnosis and treatment
Microscopic (histologic) description
- Unilocular cyst with squamous lining containing a granular layer, usually filled with cheesy material or keratin
