  • Melanoma subtype confined to dermis or subcutis
Epidemiology
Sites
  • No apparent site predilection
Clinical features
  • Solitary and well circumscribed but unencapsulated, deep dermal or subcutaneous melanoma
Case reports
Treatment
  • Prolonged survival (Arch Dermatol 2004;140:99) compared to melanoma of similar thickness but may recur or develop metastases
Dermoscopy
  • Lack of atypical pigmented network and radial streaks; papillomatous projections with light brown and dark brown blotchy areas (Am J Dermatopathol 2009;31:574)

  • Melanoma confined to dermis or subcutis; mean Breslow depth is 1 cm
  • No in situ component, regression or ulceration
  • No associated nevus
