Definition / general

BUB1B (Budding-uninhibited-by-benzimidazoles-1-homolog-beta), also called BUBR1 (budding uninhibited by benzimidazole-related (GeneCards)
Mitotic checkpoint kinase required for cell mitotic division following severe cell damage or mutation
Delay onset of anaphase until all chromosomes are properly bi-oriented on mitotic spindle (Trends Biochem Sci 2011;36:141)
Associated with cell proliferation in neoplastic and nonneoplastic tissues
Function is dosage dependent; reductions cause premature chromatid separation or aneuploidy, depending on magnitude of reduction (Hum Genet 2008;124:473)

Adrenocortical tumors: expression predicts survival in adults (Eur J Endocrinol 2012;166:61, J Clin Oncol 2009;27:1108)
Breast: overexpressed in histologically normal breast tissues which are molecularly abnormal on microarray (Mod Pathol 2013;26:930, Patholog Res Int 2011;2011:489064)
CNS: glioblastoma requires BUB1B to suppress lethal consequences of altered kinetochore function (Cancer Discov 2013;3:198); BUB1B expression correlates well with survival time (PLoS One 2011;6:e25631)
