General
  • Shugoshin-like 1 (SGOL1) is a key protein in protecting sister chromatids from precocious separation, and a putative tumor suppressor gene (Oncogene 2011;30:4453, GeneCards)
  • Complex of shugoshin and protein phosphatase 2A (SGO1-PP2A) protects cohesin, a protein complex that regulates chromatid cohesion, helps prevent aneuploidy and maintains chromosomal stability (Nat Cell Biol 2013;15:40, Cell Cycle 2007;6:1579)
  • Frameshift mutations and loss of expression are associated with gastric and colorectal cancers with high microsatellite instability (Hum Pathol 2013;44:2234)
  • Enhances multidrug resistance of gastric cancer cells by regulating MRP1, Bcl2, and Bax genes (Tumour Biol 2013;34:2205)
