Definition / general
- Locally aggressive but nonmetastasizing soft tissue tumor of pelvic soft tissue and perineum, almost always in adult women
- Case report of tumors in 4 men (Am J Surg Pathol 1992;16:1059)
- Local recurrence common but does not metastasize
Gross description
- Myxoid, nonencapsulated
Microscopic (histologic) description
- Infiltrative tumors composed of fibromyxoid matrix with occasional bland spindle cells with delicate cytoplasmic processes in background of scattered vessels of variable size, some with hypertrophy or hyalinization of vessel wall
Positive stains
- vimentin, variable muscle specific actin, alpha smooth muscle actin and desmin
