- Sex cord - gonadal stromal tumor differentiating towards Sertoli cells with features of fetal, prepubertal or adult Sertoli cells
Epidemiology
- ~1% of testicular tumors in all age groups
- Occurs in children (~15% of cases) and middle aged adults; 10% are malignant in both groups
- Can occur as part of androgen insensitivity syndrome, Carneys complex and Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (Am J Surg Pathol 1995;19:50)
Clinical features
- Testicular mass in normally descended testis
- Feminization and gynecomastia in ~25 - 30% of cases
Case reports
- Testicular Sertoli cell tumor with a heterologous sarcomatous component (Arch Pathol Lab Med 1998;122:907)
Treatment
- Orchidectomy is treatment of choice
