Sex cord - gonadal stromal tumor differentiating towards Sertoli cells with features of fetal, prepubertal or adult Sertoli cells

Epidemiology

~1% of testicular tumors in all age groups
Occurs in children (~15% of cases) and middle aged adults; 10% are malignant in both groups
Can occur as part of androgen insensitivity syndrome, Carneys complex and Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (Am J Surg Pathol 1995;19:50)

Clinical features

Testicular mass in normally descended testis
Feminization and gynecomastia in ~25 - 30% of cases

Case reports

Testicular Sertoli cell tumor with a heterologous sarcomatous component (Arch Pathol Lab Med 1998;122:907)

Treatment

Orchidectomy is treatment of choice
