Definition

Typical adenosarcoma overgrown by pure sarcoma that accounts for at least 25% of the tumor

 

Terminology

=========================================================================

● Also called adenosarcoma with sarcomatous overgrowth

 

Clinical features

=========================================================================

● Occurs in 1/3 of adenosarcomas (Am J Surg Pathol 2009;33:278)

● Aggressive, 45%-70% recur, usually in pelvis

Patients may develop metastases and die of disease (Am J Surg Pathol 1989;13:28)

Typical adenosarcoma overgrown by pure sarcoma that accounts for at least 25% of the tumor

Resembles malignant phylloides tumor

May have heterologous sarcoma component; rhabdomyosarcoma is most common
