Definition / general
- Typical adenosarcoma overgrown by pure sarcoma that accounts for at least 25% of the tumor
Terminology
- Also called adenosarcoma with sarcomatous overgrowth
Clinical features
- Occurs in 1/3 of adenosarcomas (Am J Surg Pathol 2009;33:278)
- Aggressive, 45% - 70% recur and usually in pelvis
- Patients may develop metastases and die of disease (Am J Surg Pathol 1989;13:28)

- 47 year old woman with amenorrhea and mass protruding through os (The Internet Journal of Pathology 2009;8:1)
- 52 year old woman post-tamoxifen for breast cancer (Rev Hosp Clin Fac Med Sao Paulo 2000;55:17)
Microscopic (histologic) description
- Typical adenosarcoma overgrown by pure sarcoma that accounts for at least 25% of the tumor
- Resembles malignant phylloides tumor
- May have heterologous sarcoma component; rhabdomyosarcoma is most common
