We invite you to contribute gross, microscopic, special stains or other images, particularly of uncommon entities.  We will post them in the appropriate chapter of our online textbook, so pathologists and related personnel throughout the world can benefit from them.  We will list your name as a contributor in the chapter, and in this monthly email, unless you want to remain anonymous.  The turnaround time for posting is now running 4-6 weeks.  For more information, click here.

Improvements:  By request, we are changing our chapters and other pages, over time, so that links will open a new window.  We are also adding more Home Page links to chapters as they are updated.  We recommend use of the new Firefox browser at www.firefox.com, which loads many pages, including ours, much faster.

We were advised by one visitor that some of our large chapters, such as Breast-nontumor and Breast-malignant, load very slow or not at all on systems with limited memory.  Please let me know if you are having this problem.  We may break up these chapters into sections, so the pages are smaller and load faster.

Link checking:  We continue to link check on a regular basis.  We are posting more images on our server (from donated images) and limiting the use of outside links to known reliable websites and journals, to reduce the number of bad image links.  Even so, some very good websites do go down from time to time or change the links to come up with an error page, which our link checker program cannot detect.  Let us know if your spot a bad link, and we’ll check it out.

Mystery Case: We have a Mystery Case of the Month on the Home page, right side.  Click on the image to enlarge it, and on the link for the diagnosis.  We plan to post a new case at the beginning of each month.

New Products and Services page:  We continue to add announcements on a regular basis.  Click on the New Products button (left side of the Home Page) to access this page.

Sister website: We have started a sister website, www.DermatologyOutlines.com.  Our plan is to have dermatology advertising (corporate, jobs, fellowships, etc.) but use similar content for the chapters, with perhaps more emphasis on treatment.  However, the additional advertising revenue will help us improve the content of the textbooks.

Textbook: We updated the Breast-Malignant chapter, now with 1300+ image links and new references and text.  Our Thyroid Gland chapter was reviewed by Shahidul Islam, MD, PhD, FCAP, The Ottawa Hospital, Ontario (Canada).  We are now updating chapters on Breast-nontumor and Skin-Melanocytic tumors.  We are seeking authors to write new chapters on quality assurance / quality control in the laboratory, or flow cytometry.  If interested, please contact Dr. Pernick at NatPernick@Hotmail.com.  We added a new Management page article, Collaborative Labs and the Underlying Cost to Pathologists, by Mick Raich, Vachette Pathology.

Our website is under continuous improvement and is updated daily.  Please email me at NatPernick@hotmail.com if you see a possible error or have a comment.  I personally respond to each email, usually within one business day.
