Case of the week: We recently posted and emailed Case #147. We typically post 3 cases per month. To receive these cases by email, email NatPernick@Hotmail.com with “subscribe to COW” in the subject line. There is no charge. Cases are also listed on the Case of the Week page by number, with and without diagnosis, and by category (dermatopathology, hematopathology, etc). We also accept new cases, although we have enough cases for the next 9-10 months.
Contests: We have decided to select two winners of $50 for our survey contest. We will notify them soon and post their names on our Contests page when confirmed. Thanks to all who completed our survey, which has been helpful in improving our website.
Contribute: We were saddened to learn about the death of Dr. William Weems, a dermatopathologist whose website had many nice images that we linked to. Unfortunately, his website has also disappeared, and all of those images are now lost. To preserve your image collections, we invite you to contribute images to us, where we will post them, with your name as the contributor, for a longer period (most likely) than you could maintain them yourself. Your contribution will be seen by our large number of monthly visitors, who will appreciate your work.
Detroit College Promise: Our charity is turning around a large urban school system, by offering assistance with college readiness and scholarships. For seniors graduating in 2009, we have 143 students eligible for our scholarships. For next year, we intend to assist 25,000 high school students in Detroit. We will post them in the appropriate chapter of our online textbook, so pathologists and related personnel throughout the world can benefit from them. Improvements: Some recent improvements (in response to your comments) that are being incorporated into new and updated chapters include:
- better formatting of the Home Page
- Table of contents, also in alphabetical order
- adding descriptions to images posted from the AFIP fascicle
- more spacing to improve readability
- splitting of chapters that are long
- including more content in the differential diagnoses.
We are considering making each topic a separate page, with bigger captions and thumbnails of images (linking to larger images). What do you think? Let us know with an email.
Link checking: We link check each chapter at least every 3 months, and other pages more frequently. However, some good websites go down from time to time, or change the links in a way our link checker program cannot detect. Let us know if your spot a bad link, and we’ll check it out.
