Greetings:

This is our monthly email highlighting changes to PathologyOutlines.com. The last email was sent on 1 July 2009.

Spread the word: Tell your new colleagues, residents or fellows about our website. We would be happy to answer their questions by telephone (248/646-0325) or email (NatPernick@hotmail.com).

Improvements: Recent improvements to our online textbook include:

(a) We have posted the Skin-Melanocytic Tumors chapter in our new format, with one topic per page, better readability and thumbnails of most images. All new chapters and updates will have this format. This should improve the speed of loading each page, and make searches more precise.

(b) We have posted these new / revised markers in the Stains chapter: BG-8 (useful for mesothelioma), D2-40 (a marker of lymphatics), HE4 (serum marker for ovarian carcinoma), Oscar Keratin (wide-spectrum keratin) and GCDFP-15 (marker of apocrine function).

(c) For the Soft Tissue Tumors - Part 3 chapter, we have updated the Skeletal Muscle section and will complete the Smooth Muscle section in a few days.

(d) We are working on a search engine for major topics in our textbook that will direct you to the correct section of our textbook. We will also retain the current search engine, which finds every use of the search term on our website.

Advertisers: We thank these renewing business advertisers: Centerchem, Inc. (assays for coagulation and fibrinolysis diagnostics), Covance (immunopathology antibodies, detection chemistries and ancillaries), Leica Microsystems (Microscopy and Imaging Systems, Specimen Preparation, Medical Equipment and Antibodies and Reagents), Mopec (custom Pathology Laboratory Equipment) and World Health Organization (tumor related books).
