Buyer’s Guide:  This page now also lists all of our corporate advertisers in alphabetical order.  We have added several new companies.  If one of your vendors is NOT listed, suggest to their sales representative that they advertise with us.  It’s one way to help our website in a minute or less, without costing you anything.

Case of the week:  We recently posted and emailed Case #116.  To receive these cases by email, email NatPernick@Hotmail.com with “subscribe to COW” in the subject line.  There is no charge.  Cases are listed by number without diagnosis, by number with diagnosis and by pathology category (dermatopathology, hematopathology, etc).  We also accept new cases, although we have enough cases for the next 6 months or so.

Contests:  We will soon be ending our contest / drawing for those who complete our new Survey by 30 April 2008.  Click on the Contests button at the bottom of the Home Page or click here for more details.

Contribute: Click on our Contribute button to learn how you can help improve our website for the pathology community worldwide by contributing images, videos or comments.

Detroit College Promise: We have established The Detroit College Promise, which will provide tuition scholarships for Detroit Public School students (in Michigan), modeled on the Kalamazoo Promise.  We expect that it will dramatically increase the number of Detroit college graduates over time, and transform the City of Detroit into a center of urban brainpower and economic prosperity.  Click on our Home Page button (left side, or click here) for more information.  In the next few months, we will let you know how you can support this program.  It is important for pathologists to take the lead in charitable activities, not only because they help our communities, but also to promote our somewhat invisible specialty.  Most of the public, and even other physicians, has no idea what we do, other than what they see on TV.

Emails: We have 5 email lists - Case of the Week (weekly, about 40 weeks per year), Jobs for Pathologists/PhDs (biweekly), Other laboratory Jobs (biweekly), New Books (monthly) and Website news (monthly).  To subscribe, email NatPernick@Hotmail.com and indicate which email list you want to subscribe to.  There is no charge.  All of our email lists are private and are not shared, sold or used for any other purpose.  Click on the Email updates button (left side of Home Page) for more information.

Exhibits:  We will be attending the 15th Annual Seminar in Pathology on April 30 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, followed by the Michigan Society of Pathologists meeting in Plymouth, Michigan on May 3.

Images: We thank the following contributors of images: (1) Dr. Julia Braza, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts ([ALL with t(9;22)], (2) Dr. Hind Nassar, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Maryland - breast adenoid cystic carcinoma-solid variant, (3) Dr. Asmaa Gaber Abdou, Menofiya University, Egypt - cervical lipoleiomyoma and (4) Dr. Marilin Rosa, University of Florida (USA) - ADH involving areas of sclerosing adenosis in a complex sclerosing lesion.

We invite you to contribute gross, microscopic, special stains or other images, particularly of uncommon entities.  We will post them in the appropriate chapter of our online textbook, so pathologists and related personnel throughout the world can benefit from them.  We particularly welcome large collections of images.  We will list your name as a contributor in the chapter, and in this monthly email, unless you want to remain anonymous.  For more information, click here.

Improvements:  Our website is under continuous improvement and is updated daily.  Please email us if you see a possible error or have a comment.  I personally respond to each email, usually within one business day.

Jobs page:  We have added an Administrative Positions section to the Jobs-Other page.  This page also has more postings than in the past.  If you need to fill a laboratory position, please visit this page to see how easy it is to advertise with us.  Our Jobs page continues to be popular.  We contact the job advertisers after 3-4 months to ensure that any positions are still open.

Link checking:  We continue to link check on a regular basis.  We are posting more images on our server (from donated images) and limiting the use of outside links to known reliable websites and journals, to reduce the number of bad image links.  Even so, some very good websites do go down from time to time.  Let us know if your spot a bad link, and we’ll check it out.

Mission:  We are trying to improve the quality of our online textbook by (a) spending more time writing and updating chapters, (b) getting more reviewers (see below) and (c) getting more images donated (see above).  We welcome any additional suggestions.

New Products and Services page:  We continue to add announcements on a regular basis.  Click on the New Products button (left side of the Home Page) to access this page.

Textbook: We recently updated the Thyroid gland Chapter, which now has 111 topics in 44 pages of text, with 1017 image links and 760 references.  We believe this chapter now includes almost all published entities relating to thyroid.  For all chapters, our total number of image links now exceeds 20,000.  They can be used for review during signout, or for preparing an educational talk.  Our Management page has 2 new articles from PSA - “Congress Delays Fee Schedule Cuts 6 Months - Or Not?” and “Dissecting the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI)”.  We are still updating Soft Tissue Tumors - Part 1.  We hope to have it finished within 2 weeks.

Thanks.
