Buyer’s Guide:  no changes.

Case of the week:  We recently posted and mailed out Case #103.  To receive these cases by email, email info@pathologyoutlines.com with “subscribe to COW” in the subject line.  There is no charge.

Emails: We have 5 email lists - Case of the Week (weekly, about 40 weeks per year), Jobs for Pathologists/PhDs (biweekly), Other laboratory Jobs (biweekly), New Books (monthly) and Website news (monthly).  To subscribe, email info@pathologyoutlines.com and indicate which email list you want to subscribe to.  There is no charge.  All of our email lists are private and are not shared, sold or used for any other purpose.  Click on the Email updates button (left side of Home Page) for more information.  Our newsletter is on hold.

Exhibits:  On January 28-29, 2008, we will attend the Tutorial on Neoplastic Hematopathology in Boca Raton, Florida, and in March 2008, we will attend the USCAP Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado.  Please stop by our booths and let us know how we can make our website more useful to you.

Images: We thank Dr. Carmen Luz (uterus-endometriosis) and Dr. Sharon Bihlmeyer (ovary-adult granulosa cell tumor) for contributing images to our online textbook.  We invite you to contribute gross, microscopic, special stains or other images, particularly of uncommon entities.  We will post them in the appropriate chapter of our online textbook, so pathologists and related personnel throughout the world can benefit from them.  We particularly welcome large collections of images.  We will list your name as a contributor in the chapter, and in this monthly email, unless you want to remain anonymous.  For more information, click here.

Improvements:  Our website is under continuous improvement and is updated daily.  Please email us if you see a possible error or have a comment.  I personally respond to each email, usually within one business day.

Jobs page:  We are making several changes to the Jobs pages for 2008.  First, we have a new price of $700 for pathologist/PhD ads, that is the same whether the ad is for one position or more than one position.  For other laboratory jobs, the cost is $500.  Second, although we will continue to post academic positions until they are filled, up to one year, we will post nonacademic positions (pathologist/PhD or other laboratory) for 6 months at most.  This should remove many ads which have likely been filled.  Third, we will no longer accept ads seeking pathologists to work for other specialties, such as urologists or gastroenterologists.  In our opinion, these types of jobs are not good for the pathology profession, and are illegal in some states.

Link checking:  We continue to link check on a regular basis.

Mission:  We are trying to improve the quality of our online textbook by (a) spending more time writing and updating chapters, (b) getting more reviewers (see below) and (c) getting more images donated (see above).  We welcome any additional suggestions.

New Products and Services page:  We continue to add announcements on a regular basis, and with our large number of advertisers, plan to post several announcements per week.  Click on the New Products button (left side of the Home Page) to access this page.

Reviewers: We want each chapter reviewed by an expert after it is updated.  Currently, we are seeking reviewers for these chapters/sections: Leukemia (update in progress), Skin Tumors (to be updated soon), Stains: actins (various), caldesmon, calponin (recently updated).  Since reviewing an entire chapter may be a difficult task, we will solicit reviewers on smaller portions of a chapter, ranging from one topic to a section.  We cannot pay reviewers for these smaller portions, but will list their names by the topic reviewed in the chapter and their name and contact information on the Reviewers page.  Click here for more information.

Surgical pathology textbook: We split the Breast chapter into nonmalignant (including ADH) and malignant (includes DCIS, also males and children), and extensively updated the Breast-nonmalignant chapter.  It includes 102 topics (almost every entity that has been described), with over 900 image links and 700 references.  We also have virtual slides and even videos of a professor reviewing a slide.  We also updated the Stains chapter for muscle markers including the various actins, caldesmon and calponin.

Thanks.
