Case of the week: We list cases by Case Number (thru #100) without and with the diagnosis and by category (i.e. GI, GU, soft tissue, etc.). We have cases for the next several months, but we are always accepting interesting cases - we only need diagnostic microscopic images and a brief clinical history. The cases should not be too routine. Click on the Case of the Week button on the left hand side of the Home Page to see a list of our Cases or for more information. If you have comments on a case, please let us know.
To review these cases by email, email info@pathologyoutlines.com with “subscribe to COW” in the subject line. There is no charge.
Emails: We have 6 email lists - Case of the Week (weekly, about 40 weeks per year), Jobs for Pathologists/PhDs (biweekly), Other laboratory Jobs (biweekly), New Books (monthly), Website news (monthly) and a Newsletter (twice a year). To subscribe, email info@pathologyoutlines.com and indicate which email list you want to subscribe to. All of our email lists are private and are not shared, sold or used for any other purpose. Click on the Email updates button (left side of Home Page) for more information.
Exhibits: We recently attended the annual Wayne State University conference in Dearborn, Michigan, and the ASCP Annual Meeting in New Orleans. Next month we will attend the Michigan Society of Pathologists Winter Meeting. Please stop by our booth and say hello if you will be attending. We are always interested in your comments on how we can make our website more useful to you.
Improvements: Our website is under continuous improvement and is updated daily. Please email us if you see a possible error or have a comment. I personally respond to each email, usually within one business day.
Jobs page: We have two Jobs pages that continue to grow. One is for Pathologists and PhD’s, and also contains separate sections in the Table of Contents for locums / part time jobs, open residency slots and PhD positions. The other Jobs page is for all other laboratory positions, such as pathology assistants, cytotechnologists, supervisors, histotechnicians, etc. These jobs are also listed by job type (i.e. pathology assistant, manager, etc.).
Link checking: We are now fixing the bad links from Journal of Clinical Pathology, which unfortunately switched from a no registration site to a registration (for no charge) site. We are trying to post as many images as possible on our server, when allowed by law, to reduce the problem of bad links when other websites go down.
Mission: On-line since August 2001, our goal is to help pathologists and laboratory personnel find information fast. Visit our website as your first step to find pathology information. We provide a comprehensive textbook of pathology and other resources for pathologists and laboratory personnel, with information that can be found in two or three clicks from the Home Page, either in the text or in one of our 18,000 image links or 13,000 references.
We have decided to discontinue links to websites that require plug-ins. For now, this primarily affects Web microscope, which is otherwise a very nice website. Unfortunately, many computers cannot download plug-ins, and we would like our website to be usable from any computer, with any browser. We recommend that other websites with plug-ins also have a version that works with ordinary browsers.
New Products and Services page: We now add announcements on a regular basis. It’s a good place to visit to check what’s new for the pathology community. Click on the New Products button on the left side of the Home Page to access this page.
Surgical pathology textbook: We extensively updated the Conjunctiva chapter of the Eye chapter. We are now updating the Breast chapter, and will split it into two sections - nonmalignant (normal, benign, atypia) and malignant (DCIS, malignancies, males, children, miscellaneous). We have decided to update the chapters more frequently that are visited the most, namely breast, soft tissue, ovary, kidney tumor, uterus, stains, thyroid, skin tumor, CNS tumor, skin nontumor, CD markers and bladder. We plan to update all chapters regularly, but will focus on these a little more. We are also spending more time writing, so we can update more quickly.
Thanks.
