The Island Health Department of Laboratory Medicine, Pathology, and Medical Genetics is seeking applications for a full-time anatomical pathologist who can provide broad coverage in surgical pathology. Previous work experience and/or fellowship training would be considered an asset. Based at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, you will work with a team in the hospital environment, sharing knowledge and collaborating to ensure seamless pathology services within the local community and across the island. You will be a member of the Department and report to the Division Head and Medical Director of Anatomical Pathology and the Department Head and Medical Director for Laboratory Medicine.
Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is the regional hospital for central Vancouver Island, providing services to an immediate referral population of 125,000 and secondary referral services for 330,000. It has 345 acute care beds and over 20 long term care beds. The Nanaimo medical community enjoys a full complement of primary care physicians and skilled specialist colleagues.
All applicants must have a Fellowship in Anatomic Pathology or General Pathology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or its equivalent) and must obtain full licensure in the province of British Columbia, as well as CMPA coverage. - Clinical: Serve as Associate Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine, and Associate Director or Director of Apheresis, commensurate with experience. Medical direction of blood bank related clinical services, as needed. Provide medical oversight to all medical, technical and regulatory processes and procedures, including quality assurance. Promote the use of safe and effective blood transfusion components and services throughout the medical center, working closely with clinicians in hematology, oncology, stem cell transplantation, neurology, obstetrics and cardiothoracic and trauma surgery.
- Service: Participation in departmental, institutional and national committees when necessary.
- Teaching: Participation in the educational activities of Transfusion Medicine including: (1) didactic presentations, rounds, and seminars involving residents, medical and graduate students, and dental and allied health students; (2) continuing education for faculty, nurses, allied health personnel, and community physicians; and (3) development of workshops at the local, state, and national level.
- Research: Scholarship primarily in Pathology through presentations at national meetings, developing clinical research collaborations, contributions to peer-reviewed scientific literature, active participation in appropriate professional organizations is required.

Our growing team is seeking full-time General Pathologists and Anatomical Pathologists to join Kamloops Pathology Associates Ltd. We are based at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, British Columbia and primarily provide Anatomical and Clinical Pathology Services within the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area of the Interior Health Laboratory System.
The successful candidate(s) will be joining an onsite collegial group of ten other laboratory physicians (four anatomical, five general, and one medical microbiologist) reporting to the Area Laboratory Medical Director/Department Head. We can provide strong mentorship for a new graduate.
Duties include participation in general surgical/autopsy pathology, hematopathology (including transfusion medicine), non-gynecological cytology, and/or medical biochemistry depending on training and experience. Equal participation in the departmental on-call rotation, committee work, and some limited regional lab oversight is expected.
The site is closely linked to the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine, so teaching residents and medical students is also possible.
Call Schedule
- Hours of Work: Full-time.
- On-Call Requirements: Approximately 1:8.
Compensation / Vacation
- As per provincial service contract grid during first probationary year.
- Potential for volume based compensation following the probationary period.
- On-call compensation at provincially negotiated MOCAP Level 3.

Neuropathologist

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) in conjunction with IU Health Physicians (IUHP), is jointly recruiting a neuropathologist with strong diagnostic skills to join its neuropathology division.
The individuals selected will be based at the IU Health Central Pathology Laboratory (IUHPL). The neuropathology division serves 10 hospitals within the IU Health Hospital network, Eskenazi Health, and the Roudebush VA Medical Center. The range of specimens is broad, including robust adult and pediatric surgical neuropathology (e.g. neoplasms, epilepsy, inflammatory/infectious cases), muscle and nerve biopsies, ophthalmic pathology, and autopsy pathology. Pediatric neuropathology is in association with Riley Children’s Health, the only comprehensive pediatric hospital in the state which has an active neurosurgery service. A comprehensive neuropathology fellowship training program is available for up to 2 fellows per year.
The division also supports the academic and research missions of the Indiana University School of Medicine. Goodman Hall (home of the Stark Neuroscience Center, the Indiana Alzheimer’s Disease Center, and the IU Health Neuroscience Center) is nearby.

Cytopathologist
ROCHESTER, NEW YORK (USA).
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry, in Rochester, NY is seeking a Cytopathologist. Candidates must hold an MD or MD-PhD, have completed cytopathology fellowship training, be board-eligible in anatomic pathology by the American Board of Pathology and eligible for a medical license in the State of New York. This position will be primary cytopathology while potentially providing some support to one of the surgical pathology subspecialties. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the position will have an academic component, which may include translational or clinical research. Leadership opportunities could be available for interested experienced candidates. The anticipated rank is open, commensurate with experience.
The Cytopathology Division at the University of Rochester annually evaluates 55,000 GYN Pap tests, 13,000 Non-GYN specimens including a diverse mix of body cavity fluids and fine needle aspirations, and many interesting consult cases. There is a robust fine needle aspiration service throughout the hospital, composed of approximately 2,500 fine needle aspiration procedures. Immediate on-site evaluations are rendered for a range of procedures, including endobronchial ultrasound guided fine needle aspirations (EBUS), endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspirations, CT-guided fine needle aspirations, ultrasound guided fine needle aspirations, and fine needle aspirations of palpable lesions. In addition, we have various special interactive programs for cytopathologists including real time intraoperative evaluations with thoracic surgeons and ultrasound guided fine needle aspirations performed by cytopathologists.
The University of Rochester Medical Center is a highly collegial environment with many opportunities for collaboration particularly with investigators in the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center. This is a very active oncologic service with expertise in many types of solid tumors. Surgical Pathologist
ROCHESTER, NEW YORK (USA).
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester (URMC) School of Medicine & Dentistry, in Rochester, NY, is currently recruiting for a surgical pathologist. The ideal candidate will have interest/training as a breast/GYN pathologist; candidates with interest in either individual subspecialty will also be considered. Successful applicants must be board-eligible in anatomic pathology by the American Board of Pathology, eligible for a medical license and employment in the State of New York. The position is open, commensurate with experience.
The Department provides a very wide range of services, currently accessioning almost 100,000 surgical pathology cases per year from the six hospitals in the University of Rochester’s medical system, including its women’s hospital Highland Hospital. More than 35 anatomic pathologists participate in a fully subspecialized sign out model based at the University’s largest hospital, Strong Memorial. Together, the GYN and breast services are responsible for almost 20,000 surgicals annually, including over 600 consults.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in a program in applied, translational, or basic research. The Medical Center has a highly collegial environment. There are multiple opportunities for collaborative research and for the development of clinical initiatives through interactions with Medical Center faculty.

Gynecologic/Perinatal Pathologist
TORONTO, ONTARIO (CANADA).
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is a major academic health facility affiliated with the University of Toronto, training 5,000 student learners from over thirty health disciplines including 1,300 residents and fellows per year. We invite applications for an Academic Pathologist with strong diagnostic expertise in gynecologic oncologic pathology and perinatal pathology. Fellowship training is preferred. The applicant must possess a medical degree and hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Anatomical Pathology, or equivalent, and be eligible for an independent license by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
Sunnybrook’s Division of Anatomic Pathology in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Molecular Diagnostics, Precision Diagnostics and Therapeutics Program handles over 30,000 surgical pathology (including 1,000 placentas), 15,000 cytopathology cases and 50 perinatal autopsies/year. The successful applicant will thrive in a collegial inter-professional team setting as part of the Precision Diagnostics and Therapeutics Program, including participation in multi-disciplinary tumour boards and collaborative work in basic and translational research including molecular and biomarker studies. Perinatal Pathologist

We provide coverage for three community hospitals which have a combined surgical pathology workload of approximately 12,000-12,500 cases, 6500 gynecologic smears, 850 non-gyn cytology cases, and 150 bone marrows. Subspecialty training in Hematopathology or Cytopathology is preferred, but not required.
The prospective candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of routine diagnostic surgical pathology. The work is well rounded with a main emphasis on general surgical pathology including breast and GI. Other areas include gynecologic, liver, and some limited ENT, urologic, and thoracic specimens. All members of our group are involved in the management of laboratories. There is no Neuropath requirement, and all autopsies are sent to the University of Virginia. Our practice functions in a highly collaborative manner. The practice is well-respected and has served our communities for over 20 years.
