VABHS has a full-time Pathology Specialist/Pathologist’s Assistant opening and this position offers a Recruitment/Relocation Incentive to the selected candidate, as deemed. The employee serves as a Pathology Specialist and provides technical and administrative assistance, oversight, and coordination of all grossing areas, frozen section areas and autopsy suite in the Anatomic Pathology Service. The position is located within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at the VA Boston location in West Roxbury, MA.
Candidates must have at least one year of experience processing pathology specimens including fixing, gross examination, orientation, cutting and dissecting; assisting with gross photography; preparing frozen sections for rapid diagnosis of tissue during surgery; operating and maintaining instruments and equipment used to prepare specimens for diagnosis; assisting pathologist with autopsies; preparing work areas for all inspections; and providing training to others in pathology specimen examination. Experience in examining and processing surgical pathology specimens is critical requirement. Your experience must be documented in your resume to clearly support the duties and experience required for this position to be creditable. Position also requires at least a bachelor’s degree related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (AP) Manager and Pathologist Assistant and is located at the VA Medical Center in West
Roxbury, MA. The BACL serves the eight VISN I Medical Centers and their supporting Out-Patient Clinics.
The incumbent oversees personnel, logistical, fiscal, and educational matters for the Boston Area Consolidated Laboratories (BACL) Anatomic Pathology (AP) Service, and creates, formulates, writes and reviews BACL AP Service administrative and technical policies and procedures. This job level requires a bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree, with a major field of study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. It also requires at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Supervisory Health Science Specialist and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
