The Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is inviting applications from qualified candidates at the Assistant Professor level for a full-time, open tenure or non-tenure earning position through the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine. This position will work across campus for collaborative research and clinical work requiring molecular pathology expertise. Responsibilities include the development, validation, and implementation of molecular diagnostic clinical tests and expansion of test menu in the UAB Hospital’s CLIA-certified clinical molecular diagnostics lab. Research and publications in related areas are required. This candidate should have excellent communication and collaborative skills and will work closely with our growing faculty team at the molecular diagnostic laboratory at UAB Hospital.
The Division of Genomics Diagnostics and Bioinformatics includes 6 faculty members and is in a phase of growth under new leadership of the Department of Pathology. We are expanding our molecular diagnostic test menu and computational informatics to support patient care and innovative research programs at UAB. Responsibilities include: designing, developing, and validating new clinical assays; assisting with development of reporting methods for clinical lab test results; previewing and preparing all testing results prior to final review by director; ensuring lab operations are fully compliant with CLIA and CAP regulations; and maintaining databases to track and measure lab results, productivity, workflow, assets, expenses, and revenues.

AP/CP Board Certified Pathologist

Aurora Diagnostics, a leading independent pathology services and cancer diagnostics company, is seeking an AP/CP Board Certified Pathologist to join the Cunningham Pathology practice in Birmingham, AL. The practice serves multiple hospitals throughout Alabama.
The position requires the ability to cover high volume, anatomic surgical cases, frozen sections, and cytopathology. Candidates should also have the ability to work independently, have excellent communication skills, and the ability to effectively interact with clients and staff.
Applicants must hold an MD or DO degree, be board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and be eligible for unrestricted Alabama medical license. A GU specialty is preferred. Candidates with a AL license will be given preference. A minimum of three-five years of experience is preferred.

The surgical pathology services in the Division of Anatomic Pathology includes approximately 25 faculty members with expertise encompassing the entire spectrum of subspecialty areas. Surgical Pathology or Subspecialty Fellowship is preferred but not required. The practice provides full coverage for a 263- bed community hospital and a busy reference laboratory with an emphasis on women’s health. Annual caseload includes Surgicals ~10000, Non-Gyn Cytology~2500, Gyn Cytology~20000, and Bone marrows~20. No Autopsy Pathology. Strong general surgical pathology and cytopathology skills are required. Specialty training or fellowship in Cytopathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, or Dermatopathology are desired. Experienced pathologists, those new in practice, as well as current fellows are encouraged to apply.

Director of Anatomic Pathology

The Department of Pathology at the University of South Alabama (USA) in Mobile is currently recruiting for a Director of the Division of Anatomic Pathology. The Division of Anatomic Pathology handles about 17,000 surgical and 4,500 cytology cases a year and it is expanding rapidly. The Division of Anatomic Pathology serves USA Health University Hospital, USA Health Children’s and Women’s Hospital, and the USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute. The two hospitals are licensed for 550 beds combined. Molecular/next generation sequencing, cytogenetics, immunohistochemistry, FISH, and electron microscopy laboratories are part of the sophisticated menu of tests available. The Department has a combined residency training program in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with 12 residents and new fellowship programs. Subspecialty training and/or experience in Breast and Gynecologic Pathology is preferred but not required.
The candidate must have academic credentials and experience in administration. Applicants should be board certified in Anatomic Pathology and must be fully licensed to practice medicine in the State of Alabama before start date. We offer an outstanding compensation package.
