The department is experiencing rapid growth and year over year increases in test volume. The Department and The University of Kansas Health System with an NCI-designated Cancer Center provides rich opportunities for clinical and translational research, both within the Department and within the Medical Center.
The successful candidate should possess strong diagnostic skills with board certification or board eligibility in clinical microbiology and/or medical microbiology (ABP-MM or ABMM). In addition to participating in clinical service, the successful candidates will be expected to participate in medical student, resident and fellow training, and develop research projects reflective of his/her own interest.

Academic Molecular Pathologist

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking an academically oriented Pathologist who is board-certified/eligible in Molecular Genetic Pathology with fellowship training and/or experience in clinical molecular testing, particularly the interpretation of next-generation sequencing results. Candidates with additional interest in pursuing clinical service in other areas of anatomic pathology (AP) and/or clinical pathology (CP) are welcome. This is a full-time appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Professorial rank on either the tenured or non-tenure clinical track, depending on qualifications.
The department is experiencing rapid growth and has established a subspecialization practice model. Performing over 4 million laboratory tests with over 40,000 surgical pathology cases, 4,000 molecular oncology, 9,000 cytogenetic, and over 11,000 microbiology tests annually, as well as over 90,000 SARS-CoV-2 in 2020. The Medical Center, including an NCI-designated Cancer Center, provides rich opportunities for a range of clinical and translational research within the Department.
The successful candidate should possess strong diagnostic and interpretation skills with subspecialty training or experience in one or two specified specialties. In addition to participating in diagnostic interpretation of a subspecialty area, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in medical student, resident and fellow training, and develop research projects reflective of his/her own interest. A leadership role in the Division of Genomic Diagnostics (DGD) or in the Department is possible depending on the candidate’s desire, qualification, and leadership experience.
