Academic Molecular Pathologist

The Department of Pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, a founding member of Mass General Brigham and a principal teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is seeking an academically oriented molecular pathologist with established diagnostics skills and an interest in clinical-translational research. The successful applicant’s principal clinical duties will be service/patient care responsibilities in molecular pathology, with a focus on hematopathology-oriented molecular pathology. Certain faculty may also cross-cover other molecular diagnostic services and hematopathology.
The ideal candidate will have an MD or MD/PhD degree(s) and be Board certified or eligible in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology (ABP) and Molecular Genetic Pathology, and have a strong record of accomplishment and commitment to patient care, academic scholarship, and training. Bioinformatics skills and board certification in hematopathology are desirable. Clinical responsibilities in molecular pathology are primarily based in the Center for Advanced Molecular Diagnostics (CAMD) and include interpretation of next generation sequencing panels (especially focused on hematologic malignancies), single gene assays including RT-PCR, allele specific PCR, and IGH/TCR gene rearrangement studies as well as teaching of fellows and residents. The CAMD service is currently staffed by 22 faculty (7 assigned to the service focused on hematologic neoplasms), 4 MGP Fellows, and 2 LGG fellows, who collectively handle over 50,000 tests annually.
The BWH Department of Pathology has more than 120 faculty members and 55 residents and clinical fellows and offers complete Anatomic and Clinical Pathology services. The environment provides unparalleled opportunities for clinical and translational research within the Department as well as through collaboration with investigators at other Harvard-affiliated institutions, including the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where there are busy multidisciplinary lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma, and transplant programs. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital is looking for a senior level AP/CP board certified pathologist, who is qualified to obtain a medical license in Massachusetts, to join a team of 3 pathologists based at Mount Auburn Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliated Community Hospital in Cambridge, MA. Fellowship training and experience in a subspecialty area of surgical pathology, such as gastrointestinal and liver pathology, breast, or gynecologic pathology is desired. Responsibilities include sign-out of general surgical biopsies and resections as well as participating in frozen section, cytology and on-call services in addition to oversight of general clinical pathology needs. Good communication skills and desire to work collaboratively with pathology staff and clinical colleagues are required.
As members of the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Department of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, the pathologists at Mount Auburn Hospital collaborate with 18 pathologists at the Lahey-Burlington campus. The combined professional services provide a wide range of subspecialty expertise in anatomic and clinical pathology. Mount Auburn anatomic pathology processes approximately 15,000 surgical and non-gynecologic cytology specimens per year. Clinical pathology provides on-site services in clinical chemistry, hematology/coagulation and transfusion medicine.

The Department of Pathology at Beth Israel Deaconess-Plymouth is seeking to recruit a full-time AP/CP trained pathologist (1.0 FTE position). BID Plymouth is a 170-bed community hospital performing clinical laboratory tests, including surgical pathology and cytopathology specimens. BID Plymouth is a contemporary suburban community, located within 45 miles of downtown Boston.
The position entails surgical pathology sign-out with a role in oversight of the clinical laboratories at BID Plymouth.
Applicants must hold an MD or DO degree and board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and be qualified to obtain a medical license in Massachusetts. We are seeking an outstanding surgical pathologist who shares our vision of excellence in diagnostic pathology. The candidate will join two full-time and one part time pathologists.
The BID-Plymouth Pathology Department’s volume is approximately 12,000 surgical specimens per year. In addition, there are approximately 5000 gynecologic cytology specimens and 1000 non-gynecologic specimens per year. The pathologists are involved in clinical consults which primarily include evaluation of peripheral blood smears, blood bank serology, and serum protein electrophoresis and immunofixation.
The candidate will be involved in general surgical and breast cancer conferences and participate in a rotating call schedule, approximately one week in every four.
The Department of Pathology does have a Pathologist Assistant, however, occasional grossing of specimens may be necessary. No autopsies are performed at this hospital.

UMass Memorial Medical Center is the premier health care provider in Central Massachusetts and is the teaching hospital of the UMass Chan Medical School. The Department of Pathology has over fifty faculty members and a highly regarded AP/CP residency program with sixteen residents. The state-of-the-art Microbiology Laboratory at Quest provides comprehensive services to major medical centers, affiliated hospitals, and outpatient facilities in Northeast US. Key responsibilities:
- Oversees the scientific and technical direction of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, including CLIA responsibility for rapid response labs as needed.
