Associate Medical Director of Clinical Microbiology
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA (USA).
The Division of Laboratory Medicine within the Department of Pathology at the University of Virginia invites applications for an academically-oriented clinical microbiologist to serve as Associate Medical Director of Clinical Microbiology. Laboratory areas of Clinical Microbiology include specimen processing, bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, molecular microbiology, special pathogens (Ebola Treatment Facility support), and limited parasitology. Our laboratory supports the infectious disease testing needs for the UVA Health System, including the Emily Couric Cancer Center, UVA Children’s Hospital, and a wide variety of associated outpatient facilities. The open position includes a leadership role in COVID testing for the UVA student population and for community surveillance.
The successful candidate will share laboratory responsibilities with the Director by providing medical and technical innovation and oversight, and consulting with clinical staff. They will support quality initiatives, contribute to educational programs (primarily pathology residents, infectious disease fellows, and medical technologists), lead assay development and validation, and develop collaborative and/or independent research activities. Dynamic relationships can be expected with colleagues in Laboratory Medicine, Anatomic Pathology, and Experimental Pathology, as well as a variety of other departments, to include Internal Medicine/Division of Infectious Diseases, Orthopedics, and Gastrointestinal and Digestive Health.

Associate Laboratory Medical Director
Inova Central Lab

Inova Laboratories, located in Northern Virginia, is seeking an experienced pathologist with board certification in anatomic and clinical pathology to serve as the associate medical director of this large and expanding laboratory. Fellowship training in cytopathology is highly desirable.
The lab provides a comprehensive range of routine and specialized laboratory tests for both in- and out-patient populations (totaling 2.6 million billable tests / year including core lab, centralized microbiology, histology and cytology tests).
The preferred applicant should have experience in providing clinical pathology services and is expected to sign out surgical pathology and cytology cases including Pap smears, peripheral blood smears, body fluid slides, and serum and urine protein electrophoresis and immunofixation. Experience in the implementation of new laboratory equipment as well as outreach is desirable. The applicant must exhibit strong leadership and team building skills as well as a commitment to quality. The duties will also include oversight of the laboratory with an emphasis on administrative responsibilities and clinical pathology coverage and oversight of histology lab, cytology operation and image analysis.
The Associate Medical Director will be actively involved in clinical issues, such as, consultation for clinician inquiry, quality management, operational efficiency including utilization management and outreach and work with laboratory Medical Director, administration and technical personnel to ensure that world-class diagnostic services are provided. The ability to assist in leading a highly proficient team and excellent interpersonal skills are desired.

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, a 923- bed medical center servicing Northern Virginia and the Washington DC Metro area is seeking an outstanding AP/CP Board Certified Pathologist with fellowship training in Gynecologic and/or Breast Pathology. Inova Fairfax Medical Campus has received accolades for high quality of patient care and safety in both national and regional rankings.
There are currently 20 pathologists in the group who possess a broad range of subspecialty expertise including expertise in both breast and gynecologic pathology. Candidates with a minimum of 3-5 years of sign out experience are preferred. Sign-out responsibility, on-call duties, frozen section coverage and conferences are shared with other members of the pathology faculty. The candidate must also be eligible for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Shenandoah Valley Pathology Laboratories, Inc. (SVPL) is a private pathology practice in Winchester, VA which is contracted to provide services for Valley Health System.
