Responsibilities

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will be able to support all sub disciplines of Microbiology. The Transfusion service includes the largest blood bank in the County, an active donor room, and a busy apheresis program that supports the Oncology Service, the Renal Transplant Service, and the Neurology Service. This individual will also be a member of the general Clinical Pathology service. The candidate will participate in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows and will be expected to engage in scholarly activities involving clinical, translational, or basic research. Hershey Medical Center is recruiting for an MD and/or PhD academic clinical microbiologist to serve as Medical Director of the Microbiology/Virology Laboratory. Laboratories within the Section include specimen processing, bacteriology, virology, molecular microbiology, mycobacteriology, mycology, special pathogens (Ebola Treatment Facility) and limited parasitology. Our laboratory supports the microbiology testing needs for the Penn State Health System hospitals and outpatient facilities that include the Hershey Medical Center, Cancer Institute, Children’s Hospital, and new hospital construction in Harrisburg and Lancaster.
