The Department of Pathology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time non-tenure-eligible Clinician-Educator at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Responsibilities include clinical service on the renal biopsy service to include native and transplant renal biopsies with associated ancillary studies. The renal biopsy service is growing, and currently analyzes approximately 1,200 renal biopsies annually. The Surgical Pathology division offers subspecialty sign-out and both areas work closely with other divisions of the department. In addition to clinical responsibilities and research, faculty are expected to play an active role in the teaching and training of medical students, residents, and fellows. Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills, and a commitment to excellent patient care are required.
Qualified candidates will hold an MD or MD/PhD and be board certified in AP or AP/CP from the American Board of Pathology. The candidate must be eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the state of Illinois. Fellowship training in renal pathology is required and subspecialty area of surgical pathology is desirable. Rank and remuneration determined by qualification and experience.

Interest in teaching and/or research is required. Teaching duties may include clinical, didactic, and small group teaching of housestaff and medical students, interdisciplinary conferences to housestaff and faculty, and curriculum development in subspecialty areas. Participation in the research mission of the institution is expected, either as a collaborator or as the intellectual leader of clinically-oriented research projects pertinent to the candidate’s areas of expertise and subspecialty training, depending on academic series chosen for appointment.

We are seeking candidates with fellowship training and/or significant working experience in renal (medical kidney) pathology. You will join the service with other subspecialty trained pathologists. Our annual volume is approximately 400 adult native and allograft kidney biopsies. In addition to your subspecialty, like every pathologist you are expected to participate in more than one subspecialty service of your preference and/or division needs. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, MUSC is seeking an academically-oriented Renal Pathologist with expertise in medical renal and renal transplant. For 25 years MUSC has served as the only solid organ transplant center in South Carolina. It has received the designation of Blue Distinction® Center for Transplant in Adult Kidney Cadaveric, Adult Kidney Living, Pediatric Heart, Pediatric Kidney and Pediatric Liver.
This faculty member will be one of two renal pathologists overseeing the renal service, which includes on-site biopsy assessment as well as medical kidney and transplant kidney diagnostic services. The faculty member should also be proficient in immunofluorescence and electron microscopy. Ability to sign out heart biopsies (native and transplant) and skin immunofluorescence is strongly desired. The preferred candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will be expected to contribute to the educational, scholarly and research activities of the department. This individual will instruct medical students, participate in the training of pathology residents as well as fellows. This will include renal pathology didactic lectures and multiple monthly renal pathology conferences. The relative percent effort for research, teaching, administrative duties, and patient care responsibilities will be tailored to the successful applicant’s experience and career goals. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
