We are seeking an Associate or Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology to provide diagnosis through analysis in the field of Pathology, including the specialties of Anatomic Pathology, Experimental Pathology, Laboratory Medicine, Cytogenetics, Molecular Diagnostics and Flow Cytometry, Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, and Autopsy Pathology while applying modern techniques to determine tumor prognosis in conjunction with the Tumor Registry Department and various other departments. The section director must meet the CAP (College of American Pathologists) requirements for section director/technical supervisor of a cytogenetics laboratory: 1) be a doctor of medicine, doctor of osteopathy licensed to practice medicine in the state in which the laboratory is located; or 2) hold an earned doctoral degree in a biological science or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution.
In addition, the section director must have either a) successfully completed an accredited fellowship with an emphasis on clinical cytogenetics and have at least four years of training or experience, or both (including the fellowship), in genetics, two of which in clinical cytogenetics; or b) in the absence of fellowship training, have four years of training or experience, or both, in human medical genetics or pathology, two of which are in clinical cytogenetics.

The Department of Pathology at the University of Mississippi School Of Medicine seeks a board-certified or board-eligible clinical cytogeneticist for the position of Director of Cytogenetics. Candidates for this position will only be considered if he or she has or is eligible for board certification in clinical cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics. Certification/eligibility in molecular genetics is desirable. The faculty member serving in this position will be actively involved in clinical duties such as case sign out, quality management, operational efficiency, and outreach as well as assay development and implementing new technologies. The Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory currently provides classical cytogenetic analysis of all specimen types and FISH on prenatal, constitutional blood and leukemic specimens. The laboratory anticipates expanding FISH testing into paraffin-embedded and touch-prep specimen types to meet the needs of an actively growing pathology service.
Experience with microarray and next generation sequencing is highly desirable as the Department is committed to greatly expanding the range of molecular genetic testing offered and is establishing a new molecular laboratory for those testing methodologies.
