Manager, Laboratory Operations

TUCSON, ARIZONA (USA). Responsible for overall management of laboratory operations in Product and Technology Development. Responsible for maintaining lab compliance, consistency of practices and work quality. Provides supervision and leadership for laboratory operations employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Manages laboratory (lab) operations in Product and Technology Development (PTD). Interfaces with Scientists and other researchers regarding materials and equipment needs/requests.
• Recruits, trains and manages lab operation employees to support system and assay development.
• Ensures lab meets quality and regulatory standards, responds to International Standards Organization (ISO), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), and Corp Safety Audit findings.
• Manages instrument and reagent inventories; coordinates lab instrument validation, calibration and service.
• Drives continuous improvement for lab operations, establishes success criteria, prepares statistical matrix, and monitors activities and budgets.
• Develops and executes Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) covering instrument and reagent management and refines as needed.
• Determines training needs and ensures employees utilizing the labs have the correct safety training and demonstrate safe practices; arranges for or performs training of employees in relevant areas.
• Provides centralized contract tracking and recordkeeping for PTD.
• Completes other miscellaneous duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Formal Training/Education:
• Bachelor's Degree in life science, engineering or a related discipline, or any combination of academic education, professional training, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Master's Degree preferred.

Experience:
• Minimum 5 years working experience in industry with at least 3 years of experience in lab management or operations.
• 1 year of supervisory experience.
• Experience in medical device or health care company is preferable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and/or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
• Ability to set and achieve goals and ensure realistic resource allocation.
• Ability to work with multiple stake holders and cross functional teams.
• Ability to resolve and mitigate conflicts around issues and offer viable solutions.
• Skilled in managing teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The Department of Pathology at the Yale School of Medicine is seeking a postgraduate associate for a new position in the Braddock laboratory to study translational approaches to rare diseases of ectopic mineralization. The main focus of the position will be to manage a large animal colony (of approximately 150 animals) and conduct translational experiments in animal models of diseases of ectopic calcification. In addition, the applicant, based on his/her experience and inclinations, will be assigned to molecular biologic, protein chemical, or bioinformatics projects which are ongoing in the laboratory.

The postgraduate scientist will be instructed in the following disciplines and techniques:

1. Managing animal colony, including breeding, weaning, genotyping animals and colony maintenance and planning.
2. Animal (mouse) experimentation involves daily injection of a therapeutic, recording of animal weights, and compilation of histologic and serologic data.
3. The design and optimization of protein therapeutics for model systems studied, protein overexpression in baculovirus and mammalian systems, and enzyme kinetics.
4. Molecular Biologic Techniques.
5. Protein Purification techniques
6. Bioinformatics.

The individual must:
1. Understand University and government policies and safety regulations.
2. Must be highly motivated, dependable and detailed oriented; ability to function autonomously and perform independent research.
3. Be willing to work on weekends.

A Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate scientific field (Molecular and Cellular biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biophysics) is required from a reputable four year undergraduate institution.

Flow Cytometry Medical Technologist

The flow cytometry technologist will carry out a variety of moderate to high complex laboratory techniques and analytical skills to include: all sample processing, triage and collate all patient history, pipette and stain appropriate antibody panel for respective sample, viability testing and preparation/staining of bone marrow, peripheral blood and FNA smears.

Requirements:
• A bachelors degree in relevant science.
• Certified ASCP or equivalent, medical technologist.
• Working foundation of CD nomenclature and its relationship with various Leukemia and Lymphoma phenotypes.
• Basic understanding of the WHO and FAB hematological classifications.
• In addition, he/she should demonstrate knowledge and application of laboratory policies, procedures, and programs and a commitment to continuous learning.

Responsibilities:
• Carry out a variety of moderate to complex techniques including: sample processing, pipetting, preparation of smears (BM, PB and FNA's) and subsequent staining.
• Independently perform all steps involved in specimen processing, panel pipetting and incubation/washing for flow cytometric evaluation.
• Perform viability stain and count to determine proper cell concentration of processed samples.
• Help maintain detailed patient records/files of all tests/patients for tracking and follow-up.

The Clinical Technician assists the Director of Operations and Staff Pathologist in the daily technical operation of the laboratory.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:
• Determine the priorities and coordinating tasks that contribute to workflow efficiency
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of test examinations
• Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens
• Adhere to laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed

• Oversee Lab Safety Program, including the training of personnel, monitoring procedures for OSHA compliance and facilitating safety inspections

• Prepare materials for lab inspections
• Train and supervise all cytogenetic and molecular personnel
• Coordinate turn-around-time reporting

We have two exciting opportunities to join our team as a Histology / IHC Supervisor (one day and one evening position). The successful candidates will be responsible for working in the Tisch Hospital Histology, Immunohistochemistry and Renal laboratories reporting to the Laboratory Manager. These individuals will be responsible for the daily operation of the laboratory sections which includes supervision of lead histotechs, histotechs, and lab helpers. The supervisors will provide technical expertise in tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, routine, special and IHC staining, maintenance of quality standards, instruments, and inventory. They must have the ability to troubleshoot all processes and equipment as well as participate in validation of new equipment, antibodies, and protocols. Additionally, they must be able to perform all technical functions during short staffing situations. Possession of excellent interpersonal and communication skills is a must.

To qualify you must have a Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, biology or related field or qualify as a supervisor under CLIA/NYSDOH regulations. You must be ASCP certified as HT or HTL and have a NYSDOH license as a clinical laboratory technologist, technician or histotechnician. ASCP(QIHC) certification is preferred. You must have 7 years' experience working in histology/IHC and at least 1 year supervisory experience.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Pathologist Assistant. The successful candidate will be responsible for working in the Tisch Hospital gross room laboratory under the direction and supervision of a pathologist. This individual will be responsible for gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology specimens including frozen sections. The individual will photograph gross and microscopic specimens, help prepare educational conferences, and provide training to pathology residents. A variety of administrative tasks may also be assigned. This individual will work with other pathologist assistants, staff, pathologists, residents, fellows, surgeons, and pathology department management as necessary.

To qualify you must have a Bachelor's degree from an approved NAACLS educational Pathologist Assistant training program or a Bachelor's Degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, biology or related field, with required previous related experience including surgical pathology, gross dissection of surgical specimens, and frozen sections. You must have a NYSDOH license as a clinical laboratory technologist, technician or histotechnician.

Qualified candidates must also be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. National Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP-PA) and Board certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (ASCP BOR) in addition to three years of experience working as a pathologist assistant in a surgical pathology laboratory and experience working with residents and fellows are preferred.

Pathologists' Assistant

BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA (USA). The Sanford Health Pathology Group is seeking a full time Pathology Assistant (PA) to join our department. Our team is a hospital based group and currently consists of one PA and six Pathologists working in a professional and welcoming environment. Annual workload includes approximately 15,000 + surgical cases.

Responsibilities will include:
• Gross description and complete dissection of surgical specimens
• Selection and submission of tissue sections for microscopic examinations
• Perform frozen sections under the supervision of the Pathologist
• Oversee all aspects of the grossing process including the development of standardized procedures or templates
• Assure proper handling of all specimens in the Anatomic Pathology laboratory including review of relevant clinical information and imaging studies when appropriate
• Assist in certain specialized procedures or projects as designated by the Pathologist
• Triage specimens for tissue banking, ancillary tests and special projects
• Specimen photography
• Maintain complete and accurate records of all gross and microscopic photographs
• Assist with conference preparation as needed
• Provide assistance with maintaining and updating current departmental policies, procedures and manuals
• Serve as a resource both within the department and to external hospital departments for specimen handling, correct orders, and general information about Anatomic pathology
• Display a professional demeanor and positively interact with the clinical and professional community

Qualifications:
• Minimum of 1 year experience is preferred, but not required
• ASCP certified or eligible is preferred, but not required
• Experience working with a wide variety of specimens, including highly complex specimens, in a fast-paced environment
