Definition / general
- Myxoid lesion arising adjacent to large joint (Hum Pathol 1992;23:639, Stanford University: Juxta-articular Myxoma)
- Often associated with cystic changes resembling ganglion cyst
- Often recurs up to 4 times
Epidemiology
- Median age 43 years, range 16 - 83 years
- 72% male
Sites
- Knee (88%), also shoulder, elbow, ankle, hip
Case reports
- 5 year old boy with palpable mass on medial side of knee proximal to knee joint (Eur Radiol 2010;20:764)
- 63 year old man runner with suprapatellar symptoms (Orthopedics 2009;32:527)
- 68 year old athletic woman with several month history of progressing pain, swelling, and loss of motion in knee (Arthroscopy 2003;19:E6)

Gross description
- Myxoid, mucoid or slimy mass with pale white to yellow color
Microscopic (histologic) description
- Loosely arranged spindle cells in hypovascular myxoid matrix; variable cystic spaces can be seen
