Definition / general
  • Often men, mean age 64 years
  • Usually p53+ but EBV negative
  • Usually cervical nodal metastases at diagnosis; 1/3 die of disease
  • Often mixed with classic squamous cell carcinoma
Clinical features
  • Trachea:
    • EBV related, nonkeratinized tumor with syncytial sheets of undifferentiated cells with minimal cytoplasm, prominent nucleoli, numerous mitoses and lymphocytes
    • Similar to nasopharyngeal tumor but very rare in trachea

Treatment
  • Resection, radiotherapy
