Pathologic TNM staging of sarcomas with unusual histologies and sites, AJCC 8th edition
Introduction
- This section highlights sarcomas that are difficult to stage or present with unique features that have implications in patient outcomes
- There are a number of soft tissue entities that may be locally aggressive but in general are considered to have a negligible risk of metastatic potential
- They are excluded from the AJCC staging guidelines and include:
- Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma
- Atypical fibroxanthoma
- Desmoid tumor
- Giant cell fibroblastoma
- Giant cell tumor of soft tissue
- Hemosiderotic fibrolipomatous tumor
- Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma
- Kaposi sarcoma arising in CNS sites
- Lipofibromatosis
- Pleomorphic hyalinizing angiectatic tumor
- Plexiform fibrohistiocytic tumor
- Superficial fibromatoses
