- Affects testis alone or testis and epididymis
- Culture often grows presence of coliforms
Gross description
- Testis is enlarged, tanish yellowy brown
- Associated with abscesses and thrombosed blood vessels
Microscopic (histologic) description
- Tubular atrophy, sheets of histiocytes with Michaelis-Gutmann bodies (intracellular and extracellular round structures containing iron and calcium)
